philoSophie's® Stationery & Gifts
Tell us about your business.philoSophie’s® began as a love for drawing the fun and whimsical character, Sophie, on greeting cards and invitations for a few of my co-workers. It quickly led to a part time job and after two years I started selling greeting cards wholesale and marketing custom illustrations for stationery and invitations. Learning the ropes of the industry through mentors and tradeshows like the National Stationery Show, I gained my footing and began to build out my website to offer customers innovative products that were handmade and quality. It is important to me that all of our greeting cards, stationery and invitations are made with love here in the USA!
What makes your business stand out?I am able to transition the character Sophie from a greeting card for mass audience to a custom illustration of a Bride and Groom telling their unique love story. Being able to transform and customize the character while still maintaining the philoSophie’s® brand is very unique. People can easily see themselves in the character. I am the artist and copywriter for each and every item we sell. I am very involved with the customer and wholesale distributors from start to finish.
What's the best business advice you've received? To do what makes you happy. Grow your business in the best way you know how -through creativity and kindness. Originality and quality will lead to success. These three recommendations are what I refer to when reviewing the basics of my business. Although you must know your profit margins and target market, without focusing attention on quality and creativity in a creative industry you’re just another fish in an ocean of talent. There will also be competition and very tough competition but if you stay original and give your customers what they can’t find anywhere else, business will grow and be successful.
