Tell us about your business.

Paper Lovely was created by Kim Burks, a midwest gal who finds great joy in bringing her daydreams and doodles to life on paper. The journey began in 2009 with the purchase of a vintage Kelsey tabletop letterpress housed in the spare bedroom of her house. After countless hours learning the ins and outs of the press, Kim was excited to expand her career as a graphic designer into the exciting world of letterpress. Paper Lovely prides itself on its utmost attention to every detail. Each card is hand-fed one at a time into an antique letterpress called “Pearl” which is manually powered by a foot treadle. From the initial designs in the sketch book to the final printed impression, Paper Lovely is proud to be a part of every step of the process. Paper Lovely is constantly evolving and new ideas are always being born. Paper Lovely plans on introducing new product lines in the near future including notepads, gift wrap, and gift tags.

What makes your business stand out?

When I create a new design, my main goal is to make people smile. I want the recipient to feel a moment of happiness when they receive their card in the mail, or their hand written note from a friend. I have the most fun experimenting with different forms of hand lettering as well as drawing warm and cozy illustrations.

What's the best business advice you've received?

Don't worry too much about the competition. Stay true to who you are and good things will come.
