APORTA

American Made Since 2011

Noelle Sharp

Chicago, Illinois
APORTA is a hand produced accessories and textile company. All products are made with US manufactured yarns.
Style,

Tell us about your business.

APORTA started in 2011 as a means to design and create well made accessories and textiles. All APORTA products are hand woven and knit in the US by skilled knitters and weavers. All materials are purchased from US based manufactures. APORTA also works one on one with designers to create custom fabrics. As well as selling online, retail and at markets APORTA's goal is to revitalize the US textile industry by creating job opportunities for US based knitters and weavers. There is an important conversation taking place in the design/consumer world about hand vs. machine produced products, importing vs. non importing and the simple questions of "where do my clothes come from? who is making them? and what are they being made with?". APORTA can answer these questions and more. We invite you to stop by our space, see how our products are made and try the process of weaving and knitting for yourself.

What makes your business stand out?

All accessories and textiles are woven by hand on wooden floor looms in Chicago by skilled weavers. As well as all knit items being hand knit by hand. There are very few if not only one or two hand produced textiles companies left in the US. APORTA products are produced and designed in house which enables designers and the consumer to have a personal experience with their products.

What's the best business advice you've received?

There are a few that have stuck with me... 1. Nothing great comes for free or at leisure, work hard and you will achieve your goals. 2. Utilize all forms of media outlets: facebook, instagram, pintrest. It's free advertising! 3. Asking for help does not mean you are weak. It means you have the ability to see what you need to do to become better. Having another set of eyes/hands always brings new insight.
