Tell us about your business.

After years of designing for some of the leading menswear names in the industry, Andrew & Ann Payne launched General Knot & Co. in 2010 with the desire to combine a passion for design and an unyielding commitment to bringing conscientious quality manufacturing back to the United States. It is a great honor to create all of our product here in the US with the world's greatest craftsmen. Those whose skills have been honed through generations of shared adoration for their craft. We curate our fabrics through a countrywide network of collectors, searching high and low. There is nothing quite like the thrill of finding an amazing vintage fabric and giving it another lease on life in a new and modern way. Each collection of General Knot & Co. designs are made in very limited quantities, uniquely finite and not to be repeated. Our business is rapidly evolving as we continue to add new categories of product as well as adding new areas of business such as custom wedding division.

What makes your business stand out?

Our business model is unique in that we only create limited runs so our product assortment is constantly evolving. Our goal is to create truly unique pieces that will give our customers not only a beautiful handmade design, but one they can wear with the confidence of knowing they are one of very few to own that design. We number each piece as well as give the customer any background that we can share on the unique fabric used for the design they have purchased. This enriches the customer experience by making that purchase more special and personal.

What's the best business advice you've received?

Doing something "half way" is equivalent to doing nothing..
