Tell us about your business.

I’m a lifelong gardener who still gets giddy at the thought of a trip to one of the local nurseries. I was raised on a small farm in Connecticut’s Litchfield County and a home greenhouse kept me in the dirt even in the snowy months. Yes, I actually studied landscape and environmental horticulture and the practical experience I have garnered through the years has served me well. My love of beauty, nature and all things creative prompted the start of Joy Us garden. I wish I had these products back when I was professional gardener years ago. There’s no reason we can’t look good while playing in the dirt!

What makes your business stand out?

I’m a woman gardener designing for other women gardeners. I’m proud that all of our products are made here in California, just a short 30 minute drive down the coast from our base in Santa Barbara. I make it a point of working with suppliers and manufacturers that are as close as possible and who share our values of sustainability and integrity. Our signature fabric is good old American denim from Texas. The line has been seen beyond the garden wall, in kitchens, yoga studios, at craft tables, in airports, at farmer's markets and lots of places in between. The products I design, all made with fine detailing and constructed to last, are just a small part of the business. My blog and YouTube channel are filled with beautiful photos, tips and ideas to enlighten, visually stimulate and help you get your creative groove on. I love inspiring people whether it be with dirt, plants and flowers or paint, baubles and glitter.

What's the best business advice you've received?

If you love it, stick with it because it doesn’t happen overnight so work hard and have fun along the way. Some days are like heaven and some days are a kick in the gut so you gotta roll with it.
