Tell us about your business.I purchased a small local "farmers market" seed business that involved rolling balls of organic soils and seeds. A friend of 30 + years worked with people with special needs and believed it was a good work option for them. What a great beginning that was! Now 9 years later, we have recently included vegetable and herbs for more urban gardening. Each SeedBallz grow multiple plants in a small circumference so the harvest is large but using a small space or container. We are planning to include more containers to grow SeedBallz in for the grocery markets.
What makes your business stand out?Buyers are drawn to SeedBallz because they are an innovative, simple and intriguing concept, as well as having benefits over traditional seeding methods. The seed industry is a mature one, with little innovation which is why SeedBallz have been such a success story. While including people with different disabilities we have created different tools for different strengths, allowing people of many abilities to take part in the production efforts.
What's the best business advice you've received?Be fluid..let the product lead you, not you the product. Stay open to alternative means of manufacturing and keep your costs down.
