Tell us about your business.Red’s Attic was born when I created a new doll for my niece, since her favorite doll was literally worn with love. The idea of making handmade items that are beautiful, fun, & long lasting is what drives me to create my collection of handmade dolls & accessories that the whole family can enjoy for years to come. I love the idea of children being able to create their own doll, or have one that looks just like them and instill the confidence of beauty in each child. By expanding my product line to include accessories for the whole family, everyone can make their own personal statement & enjoy quality products. I love every step in the creative process – from the design process to the finishing touch. But, I also love the beauty of handmade items, and the joy inspiration it bright to those that receive those little treasures. So, it was a natural step to share my designs and handmade products, and being able to share my creations full time would be a dream come true.
What makes your business stand out?Red’s Attic is unique in that the products are functional, beautiful, & personal. All handmade dolls & pals are named after someone in her family, and to make it even more personal they can be customized. Miss Madi & Lil’ Easton can be customized to match your child’s features or create your own design. All other items can be customized by changing color combinations as well. Some of the most memorable custom orders are those that are made in memory of a loved one from a special dress or sweater they wore, or even a fallen soldier’s uniform. Being a part of something so special is truly an honor. Customers often tell me about the joy my products bring to those who wear them, or how the handmade dolls have become a permanent addition to the family, and that is the inspiration and passion behind Red’s Attic. I am so grateful to know my products are making a difference & bringing joy to others, and am deeply committed to producing exceptional products. Above all else, I love what I do!
What's the best business advice you've received? Two pieces of advice that will always ring true, both came from my family. The first comes from my aunt who happened to be home visiting, and her advice was ‘keep things outside the box’. It’s probably been said a thousand times, but that one time it rang out to me loud and clear. It applies to so many aspects of a business – from product design, through the sewing process, and on to marketing and packaging. So from now on, I always try to think beyond the box. In order to know what my customer’s want – I need to put it out there – not in the box. The other piece of advice comes from my grandfather and father, who always told us, ‘never forget where you came from’. And, as I get older, I realize these words of wisdom ring true in so many ways, whether it is faith, family, or business. Never forget who you are, and the path that brought you there.
