SUN AND GLORY
Tell us about your business.Having had an affinity for Native American culture since I was a little girl, I have always felt close to nature and it's magnificent being. A few years back I had the opportunity to spend a lot of time in Taos, NM. I walked into a local bead store and bought some deerskin thong unsure of what to do with it, knowing something would present itself. A few days later I got out a vintage macrame book I had bought on ebay and there my first deerskin macrame necklace was born. I started wearing the pieces I created and friends started inquiring and purchasing. I did my first few craft fairs in 2012. At the end of 2012, I packed up my things and left Los Angeles to embark on an adventure living in a cabin on a river nestled in the foothills of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Here, I spent time being with nature and my surroundings letting it inspire my line and life. I expanded the line into wall hangings, plant hangers, and using nature as a medium.
What makes your business stand out?I am proud to be an American. I am proud of this vast country we call home. I am proud of the Native American culture that are the forefathers of this country. I am interested and continually astonished by the beauty and simplicity of this culture. I feel protective of the practice and people, and often hurting for the loss that the community proceeds to endure. I am inspired and hope that we can all learn to live a bit more in sync with nature and it's being. Hoping to carry on just a bit of this sanctity through my craft. I buy the majority of my leather and supplies from Native American trading posts, therefore supporting that community and using the same supplies the community uses in their craft.
What's the best business advice you've received?Do it because it makes you happy, not a millionaire.
