Spinster Sisters, Inc.
American Made Since 2010
Spinster Sisters began in 1994, and became an official business in 2010. We realized that our friends/family needed an alternative to the witches’ brew of chemicals that many modern skin care products represent. Each new product that we introduce is either something where we see a need and try to fill it, or a specific request from a customer. From our humble beginnings offering only a couple different soaps, the Spinster Sisters Microsoapery now offers over 30 different “flavors” of wonderful, fragrant, luxurious and moisturizing handmade soaps, lotions, salves, soaks and scrubs. Spinster Sisters is a family owned and operated business, and our focus is providing high quality natural skin care products with only the finest ingredients. Spinster Sisters works hard to use raw ingredients that are simple and recognizable – Olive, Coconut, Palm, Castor, Jojoba, Almond, Avocado and Hempseed Oils, and Cocoa and Fair-Trade Shea Butters (Global Mamas).
What makes your business unique?I would say that our business is unique due to our focus on sustainability. We grow many of the herbs and botanicals that are used in our products and our other ingredients are sourced locally whenever possible. We also use simple recycled/recyclable packaging to conserve resources and reduce waste. In both our business and our personal lives we make a concerted effort to reduce our energy consumption and to live in a sustainable fashion. The carbon footprint of our business is reduced significantly by a 3.5 kW solar photovoltaic system and passive solar construction. We are obsessive recyclers and rabid composters. We are proud of the pure, natural and healthy products that we produce, and we appreciate all of the support and encouragement we have received! We strive to offer the very best in quality and service to our customers.
What's the best business advice you've received? You have to spend money to make money. My husband is constantly saying this to me, because I am pretty tight with our profits. He is right though. Much of the growth we have experienced these first few years is because he has convinced me to spend money, when I wanted to hold on tightly to it.
