Old Barn Hollow
Tell us about your business. My name is Karen and five years ago I turned my hobby of food preservation into a thriving home business. At that time, I was also a full time public school teacher, a wife and mother of four. I began selling artisan jams and jellies at our local farmers’ markets. Flavors like Strawberry Balsamic with Black Pepper Jam, Crangria Jam and Ruby Red, are not only customer favorites but award winners. A year ago I made a leap of faith by resigning from my secure career and opened a store that would embody my new found passion for "locavore" style food. You can only imagine the gasps in horror as I told my family and friends of my endeavor but I had vision, clear planning and they knew like many of my adventures, I would persevere. The store, with a commercial kitchen allowed me to expand beyond jams and jellies to other canned goods and preserves. A store front also allowed a year round, one stop shop for food normally found only at farmers' markets.
