American Made Since 2010
My mother did it all: gardening, cooking, baking, and sewing. Striving to be like her, she gave me a miniature plot of land to tend my own tomatoes, one weeknight to prepare simple dinners for the family, a Christmas cookie recipe that was exclusively mine, pre-loved clothes to cut up and sew anything I could master. I learned from her to be self-sufficient and--maybe serendipitously--about recycling. Not surprisingly, Christmas and Earth Day are two of my favorite events of the year. Creating Christmas stockings out of sustainable wool felt and eco felt spun out of post-consumer waste water bottles makes perfect sense to me as it combines both loves. When a new idea for a stocking appliqué pops into my head, I sketch it, cut out the pattern, and lay out various felt colors to decide which take my fancy. In the near future, I would like to expand Echoshop’s home decor range while staying true to core values, making the best, earth friendly goods possible right here in America.
What makes your business unique?Echoshop focuses on durable products that appeal to the eye, feel great to touch, and are also practical. Durability is not necessarily what companies strive for in the current era of mass consumerism. When a customer posted as feedback, “Very pretty handmade item. My husband said, 'It could be the last stocking I would have to buy for him,'” I felt immensely satisfied because this statement succinctly expresses what Echoshop is about.
What's the best business advice you've received?"Work & play."
