Bog Berry Dryer Balls
American Made Since 2010
Before I knew I wanted to make dryer balls, I knew that i wanted to work with wool. Specifically, I knew that I wanted to have a particular experience: the FEELING of the moment when you tear the paper off of a bolt of freshly carded wool...and it goes POOF...and sort of busts out of the paper. I was determined to have THAT moment, in all of its quiet awesomeness be a big part of life...and so it started. After a cringe worthy late night call to a woolen mill ( you mean it's their HOUSE too? no machine? oh...noooooo..... ) complete with a not entirely thought out line of questioning " So, do you have wool that is...erm....wrapped in paper? like, around the middle? " ( Really.) Hint; THEY DID. The woolen mill people love me now...so, cringe worthy but not disastrous, yes? Wool and I, we were meant to be . New found love of wool met with lifelong love of nature, and commitment to sustainability- Bog Berry Dryer Balls was born.
What makes your business unique?I think that our business stands out because we are making something useful, sustainable, fun AND beautiful. Bog Berry Dryer Balls are true multi taskers...just like us! I'm Brooke- the owner, maker and thinker-upper of all things Bog Berry. My fella Jason sews like crazy...making our muslin storage bags by hand and as the entire shipping department, also walks to the post office MANY times a week- shipping dryer balls and other goodies all across the globe. Our 4 year old daughter Eleanor pitches in by tolerating life in a pile of wool and muslin ( hey- she doesn't know any better!) and keeps our already busy hands doubly busy. She also will insist to anyone who will listen, that the name of our company is " Bog Berry WOOLY BALLS" So you see, we're all pitching in :) Everything is handmade, happily, by us in our little Philly apartment. Thanks for taking the time to get to know Bog Berry. All the very best to you and yours. ♥ Brooke, Jason & Eleanor
What's the best business advice you've received? This doesn't quite fall under the "advice" heading...but I always keep these words in the back of my mind: "I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability of man to elevate his life by conscious endeavor." -Henry David Thoreau. I have a bracelet that reads "conscious endeavor"...and I wear it as a reminder to keep at it - that I am creating the life that I want for myself, and contributing to a cause and an economy that I am proud to be a small part of.
