Tell us about your business.Colorburst Mirrors was created in 2012, the result of an epiphany while driving home with my two boys. An offshoot of my design and fabrication business, Nikki Riley Designs, I created Colorburst Mirrors to supplement my work. A lover of color and bold designs, I took my skills to a new place, creating functional art with a purpose. My art begins with an idea, drawn on paper and put into the computer. I am efficient with my layouts in order to maximize the number of pieces I can have made with one sheet of steel. When the layout is complete I have the frames and pieces cutout with a waterjet machine in Sparks, Nevada. It's back in my hands at this point, grinding the steel edges smooth, welding fasteners to accept the mirror wire and prepping the steel to be sandblasted and powdercoated. If the frames are to be rusted, I do that part myself in my shop, taking care to be safe with the chemicals involved. I am confident my business will take off and my work will be showcased worldwide.
What makes your business stand out?Colorburst Mirrors is a one woman show, conceived, inspired and created by me with my hands. While I employ the services of a couple local shops to cut my frames and powdercoat the colored pieces, it is my direction leading the way. The manner with which I have set up my business makes customizing the designs simple. If you don't see what you want on my website, it's easy to draw something and have it cutout with the waterjet machine. The possibilities are endless. I have been making functional art for years on a job by job basis but I realized that a business like Colorburst Mirrors could sell itself. Mirrors are a necessity in our lives and finding beautiful, artistic pieces that stand out is rare. I pride myself on making durable works of art that will enhance people's lives everyday, in every space.
