seventeen20 is a small furniture company (husband & wife team) specializing in handcrafted, industrial modern design.

Tell us about your business.

what started as a personal quest to furnish a home remodel with unique & interesting pieces that would hold up to the daily grind, has grown into a full-time endeavor. Jonathan is a professional musician-turned-furniture maker. his love of industrial modern design has been inspired by his world travels while touring with several indie-rock bands. I (Sarah) have worked in education technology for over ten years, but have yearned to be a part of the design community for as long as I can remember. seventeen20 has provided that opportunity, but also allows us to work together on something for the first time in our marriage. we love the entire process from sketching out our ideas, to sourcing materials, to creating & photographing that first sample piece. even designing the customer experience, from web design to our packaging kit has been a team effort and one that readily allows us to put our individual talents to use in collaboration with each other.

What makes your business stand out?

how we got here is such a winding tale... if someone would've told us that we'd be furniture designers and manufacturers, we wouldn't have believed it, yet somehow it seems like we were destined to be.

What's the best business advice you've received?

start small & stay out of debt (thank you, Dave Ramsey!)
