Tell us about your business.

Kt Steppers is Mom-Owned! In my 20's I found I had a brain tumour and at the time future possibilities of having children was unknown. So, being categorized as a mom-entrepreneur is music to my ears! I think I knew I would start a business, so the urge was there. I just needed to figure out what I wanted to do and go do it. I was always creative and loved art and drawing, etc., so when I received a step stool for my second son as a gift I had that ‘ah ha’ moment. A few months later the first “stepper” was conceived. I still hand-paint, create, and design 99% of our products. With our popularity and celebrity following, I now include some other creative 'moms' and painters into the mix of producing a Kt Stepper. I would love to see our steppers being sold in larger distributors and becoming that common staple in a nursery, big kid room, bathroom, & kitc. Every house with a kids needs a step stool, so why not one that makes a space personal and of course match!

What makes your business stand out?

Kt Steppers is unique in that every order and stepper is hand made, painted, and personalized. We only use eco-friendly materials and products. Our Steppers are also becoming a staple in celebrity homes :

What's the best business advice you've received?

That I would not be able to do it by myself. I now know that I can ask for help and will find it. Join Networks for women/mom owned support. We are all in the same boat and ‘paying it forward’ only helps you grow together. Utilizing social media. Being visible on Twitter and Facebook has opened up many doors that pretty much fund the business. I recommend any businesses starting out or small business to use these avenues of promotion. I don’t think I would have grown as quickly as I have if it weren’t for Twitter and Facebook.
