Tell us about your business.A recovering drug addict, I started writing six years ago. I have been told by my professors and other writers that my work is unique to my field, but I can't get a single agent or publisher to even read my books. It's a dog eat dog world out there, and so far, I have experienced it as a toothless dachshund. I continue to submit short stories. I have one published in the "Blue Granite Review", an online magazine. My work helps addicts and families of addicts alike, and so needs to be exposed to a larger audience.
What's the best business advice you've received?Sian McClean, my editor, wrote me a letter which said, among other things, "You are immensely talented. It is time to stop thinking about yourself as a recovered addict with cool stories and acknowledge who you have always been: a talented writer. You are a writer. You are a writer. You are a writer. Anything else is a day job. Think about it."
