Tell us about your business.

It took losing my job and getting divorced for me to start taking my caramels seriously. In 2007 I began selling them at a kiosk in a local mall; the rest is caramel history! We now supply our caramels to gourmet food stores and high-end groceries in 17 different states, including Hawaii and Alaska. Today, we manufacture an entire line of gourmet caramels, all made with 100% organic ingredients. Our products do not contain corn syrup, preservatives, or artificial flavors. Because they are layered (instead of flavored), you taste real, delicious ingredients in each bite. Our flavors include: Original, Original Sea Salt, Dark Chocolate Sea Salt, Salted Beer & Pretzel, Cashew, Chai Tea, Espresso Dark Chocolate, Champagne, Sangria, Margarita (summer only), and Salted Gingerbread (winter only). We also make a finger lickin' good caramel sauce. Everything is made from scratch at our commercial kitchen in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. I hope that Becky's will eventually become a household name.

What makes your business stand out?

We have a rather unconventional beginning. As I mentioned above, I lost my job and got divorced in the same week in 2008. Becky's Blissful Bakery, therefore, was the unexpected lovechild of necessity and passion. We are also unique because both our products and our company retain a distinctly local identity. We have parterned with five other local businesses including Lakefront Brewery, Stone Creek Coffee, Rishi Tea, and Clover Meadow Winery. We have incorporated products produced by these companies into our caramel to whip up some truly mouth-watering combinations (think Beer & Pretzel caramel made with Lakefront Brewery's Organic E.S.B Beer). Through these partnerships we are able to create locally-flavored products and strengthen the Milwaukee business community. We are also proud that a portion of our sales go to support The Women's Center of Waukesha, Wisconsin. Lastly, all of our boxing and packaging materials are manufactured in Wisconsin. We do all we can to support local!
