Adam & Jackie Sappington
Tell us about your business.Adam & Jackie Sappington of The Country Cat Dinner House & Bar in Portland, Oregon know all about needing an apron that will stand up to their cooking adventures. Adam is a decorated butcher who cooks with seasonal, locally grown produce and meat. Jackie is one of the city's most talented pastry chefs and needs an apron that will stand between her clouds of flour while still being comfortable. Adam and Jackie have come together and created such an apron, as well as, an updated bistro apron, and knife bag. They have called this product line Broken Cleaver. Initially inspired by one-shoulder strapped butcher aprons they saw in France, the couple have begun to expand the Broken Cleaver brand with bistro aprons, knife bags, and soon, chef-inspired clothing. All garments are hand sewn by the Portland Garment Factory right around the corner from their restaurant, The Country Cat.
What makes your business stand out?Adam and Jackie have collectively been in the food and service industry for 40 years. Throughout their tenure, they have the knowledge base of what works in the kitchen- be it aprons, tools, and clothing. They built their restaurant on the tenets that craft cooking produces the best product. This same philosophy carries through the products developed for Broken Cleaver. All products are American made.
