Tell us about your business.

Gingiber is an illustrative paper goods & home wares store based out of the Midwest. Filled with prints, pillows, & tote bags that are sweet enough for children but smart enough for adults, Gingiber tries to find the perfect balance of artfulness & playfulness in each illustration. Gingiber is the work of illustrator Stacie Bloomfield. A childhood doodler turned full-time illustrator, Stacie is living her dream of being a working artist. Stacie founded Gingiber in 2009 when she couldn’t find the perfect art to hang in her baby girl’s nursery. Soon, Stacie began creating art prints, handmade pillows, & tea towels that drew inspiration from heirloom quilt patterns, beloved animals, & carefully curated color palettes. Gingiber’s diverse line of products have been featured in Pregnancy & Newborn Magazine, Artful Blogging Magazine, Design Sponge, & Better Homes and Gardens Online. We hope that this is only the beginning of more beautiful things to come.

What makes your business stand out?

When I was expecting our first daughter, I was excited to decorate her room, but I couldn’t find anything I truly loved, so my husband encouraged me to make my own. Growing up I would check out animal books from the library and try to illustrate the pictures I saw. So naturally I gravitated towards illustrating animals. I also love quilts—especially the ones made by my great-grandmother—and their intricate patterns. I see the fur on the animals I draw as a place to recreate the quilts’ patterns. It’s funny how things trickle into your design, and then you realize ‘yes, this is me!’.
