Tell us about your business. The Love: When I was a little girl living in Guyana, South America, my mom used to take me to see my Great Aunt Jean, who is a great seamstress. I still remember how she pinned and gathered the fabric to create style and bounce, all while holding animated and entertaining conversations with my mom. That was just the beginning of my love for art, design and color, and so after graduating from college, I created Yinibini Baby, the cutest handmade clothing and accessories for little ones! The Fabric: I seek the cutest, most stylish fabrics: made of 100% cotton, 100% organic cotton/sherpa, cotton/bamboo blends and 100% cotton chenille! I draw my inspiration for color, texture and patterns from memories of my Uncle Reggie's (Great Aunt Jean's husband) garden. I apply the same meticulous care and love to my pieces, that Uncle Reggie applied to his award-winning garden. It's my hope to eventually open a small shop, where you can also come in and see me work!
What makes your business stand out?Every artist has a creative spirit that comes through in their work. Every piece I make is from my creative spirit, and thus, is recognizable as a Yinibini Baby piece. I choose stylish fabrics, design and vibrant colors for baby that also appeal to the parents' sense of style and function. I'm proud to be part of the American made movement.
What's the best business advice you've received?Don't be afraid to take a risk on an idea.
