Bear Creek Design and Felting
American Made Since 2008
Bear Creek Design and Felting began shortly after we purchased a small flock of Registered Romney Sheep. I chose them for their wonderful wool. I had spinning and knitting in mind at the time. Little did I know how much the sheep would change my life. A friend introduced me to needle felting, which uncovered a hidden artistic ability. I began creating realistic 3D sculptures of animals out of wool. After we shear, clean and card the wool it is ready to work with. I look at pictures of animals and using a barbed felting needle I sculpt the animals out of the wool. This takes hours of stabbing the wool with the needle. The needle grabs the wool fibers and pulls it in, felting it together until it is solid. I began selling my sculptures on Etsy in 2008. I designed DIY kits to help others learn this art that same year using our own wool. I continue to develop kits and art sculptures and have added online classes recently. I love animals and the joy of bringing the wool to life!
What makes your business unique?Bear Creek Design and Felting is unique in that the products come directly from the sheep that we raise. I have been a farm girl my entire life and feel extremely blessed to be able to do what I love, with my family next to me on a quiet peaceful farm. The sculptures are one of a kind, you will never find two the same. They come from what I see, feel and love about animals and you can see it in their expressions. The DIY kits are designed by myself, sharing the techniques I have developed over the years. My family helps in the packaging of every kit and my adorable sheep provide the wool used in the kits. I have connected with many around the world through my art, kits and classes and have found many new friends in this way. Quick shipping and special care in packaging are very important to me as well as being available to answer questions about shipping, felting and special requests.
