Lets remember the impoverished and uniqueness of the deep south with the Blues...and the Cigar Box Guitar. The music of the front porch.

Tell us about your business.

About 8 years ago my now wife and I moved to Venice, Florida for retirement and the American Dream..... As it turned out things didn't quite work out as planned....The economic conditions prevailing cost us everything including the dream....Given the stress and disappointment I suffered a heart attack and then entered into clinical depression. A friend of mine mentioned something about the this strange and unique instrument called the Cigar Box Guitar who's origins dated back 150 years to the impoverished of the deep south. These folks would take a broom stick, a piece of wire from a screen door and of course, a cigar box ….and they called it a Diddly Bow...Hence the name Bo Diddly....I was intrigued. It motivated me to get up off the couch and do some investigating. Low and behold.....I built my first CBG. Every one wanted me to build one for them as gifts and so on. Now, with over 200 built, I'm in perfect health and my CBG's are in demand. Distributors are welcome!

What makes your business stand out?

The Cigar Box Guitar....The history says it all. Like the old expression....when you're dealt lemons...make lemonade!! And so they did. As miserable life was for some of these folks they still seemed to have the music in them...In actuality....home made instruments came over from Africa on the slave ships. They were made from gourds....So the cigar Box guitar was a step up. My goal is to enlighten as many folks as possible into this magnificent ...historic instrument... Lets see who have played the CBG....Bo Diddley, B.B. King, Robert Johnson, Jimi Hendrix, now Paul McCartney, Steven Tyler, Z Z Top and on and on. Its the sound of the deep south Blues....The real Blues. P S....There is so much interesting information on my website. Please visit and contact me for some good conversation.

What's the best business advice you've received?

Personally....I have learned to get off my duff and do something about it....This is fact AMERICA....Perseverance and determination will always prevail. Its never too late to start again..."Look Back but Don't Stare".......I am now enjoying some of the best times of my life thanks to a very strong array of friends that sincerely care and have motivated me. My guitars are my legacy. They will be here long after I am gone......What a testimony for the downtrodden.
