Velvet Raptor was inspired by founder, photographer Adrienne Page’s quest for a unique photo album with enduring beauty and lasting construction that moved effortlessly between the contrasting yet complimentary aesthetics of the vintage past and today’s modern beauty. Style hungry consumers looking for this generation’s heirloom have found it in these meticulously designed and constructed books and cards boasting part-silk velvet in fresh hues. All Velvet Raptor products are produced in the US and are environmentally responsible. Select velvet products are de-bossed by hand at the Velvet Raptor studio using a cast iron press has been used in the book binding process for over a century. Continuing this artisan approach, Velvet Raptor is eager to broaden the product assortment.
What makes your business unique?Every decision in sourcing and design were deliberate in keeping the Velvet Raptor’s mission of creating a truly distinguishable heirloom product that is a not only a piece of art but also socially responsible. The books are Smyth-sewn for longevity and flexibility, the paper is not only rich to the touch, sturdy, archival and is made from 100% recycled material is Smart Wood certified and is milled with wind power. Books, boxes and cards are assembled using 100% recycled book board and using non-toxic glue. The acid free storage boxes are printed at a FSC certified printing house. The Cover-weight decorative custom designed shape envelopes that accompany the cards are made from 100% recycled material. The velvet is part silk giving it a luxurious feel and sheen.
What's the best business advice you've received?Charles Eames was right in that “The details are not the details. They make the design.” In launching and creating a brand, I was encouraged to keep looking inward to my core mission and stay true to these values and design as it is ultimately defines the Velvet Raptor brand.
