Tell us about your business.I’ve always wanted to have my own business. Prunella soap was realized through the combination of my previous work experience, finishing graduate school, and my interest in small batch, organic beauty products. I put a great deal of thought into each aspect of my business — choosing soap recipes, sourcing organic and locally made ingredients from regional distributors, researching suppliers of sustainable shipping materials, designing budget-friendly packaging and styling my photographs. After nearly 3 years, Prunella soap has made its way into small boutiques throughout the US, and has received feedback from many happy customers. I also love the aspect of the business that has a part in special events and celebrations, which is the small wrapped soap favors that are ordered for guests of weddings, baby showers and birthday parties. I hope to continue to provide an alternative to commercial beauty products by providing the highest quality, small-batch vegan soap to my customers.
What makes your business stand out?My main focus when developing the recipes for Prunella soap was to create a product that uses all natural, mostly food-grade ingredients that are plant-based as opposed to coming from animals. I use only essential oils – no artificial dyes, fragrances or preservatives are used in the soap.
What's the best business advice you've received? There isn't a specific piece of advice that comes to mind, but books by Seth Godin and Steven Pressfield have been immensely inspiring throughout my journey of running a small business.
