American Made Since 2004

Julie Cleveland

Micco , Florida
Handmade polymer clay beads for jewelry and craft projects. I create all my flowers and leaves that I use in my beads, so each bead is unique.

Tell us about your business.

I started in polymer clay in 2004 after a series of hurricanes that hit my area in Florida. After a power outage, the only place with power was the library. I picked up a book on making polymer clay flowers, and I immediately saw the potential in the medium. After a lot of trial and error, I landed on millefiori cane creation in clay and bead making. I love beads, and I am a firm believer in never having enough beads. I create beads on a regular basis and have sold them online since 2005. I am always trying new things with the clay, new shapes and trying out different ways to create flowers. I have a small spot in Simply Montana LLC, which is in the Gallatin Valley Mall in Bozeman, MT where I sell finished jewelry and beads. I have a large website that is always changing, and I am an avid blogger. I am currently involved in a celebrity gifting group, The Artisan Group. I am always trying to expand my business and grow.

What makes your business stand out?

I make my own beads, which means that you will never find another set of beads like mine. Since I can customize the beads, I am very flexible towards sizes and shapes. I can create beads to match items such as clothing, which makes my beads the perfect choice for someone who is looking to create an entire outfit complete with jewelry.

What's the best business advice you've received?

The best business advice I have received involves setting prices for my work and not short-selling myself. It also involved marketing my brand and how to use social networking as a tool.
