Tell us about your business. My name is Oami (pronounced oh-me) and I’m on a mission to engineer the perfect laid back, versatile wardrobe, made from beautiful natural fibers. I design Judah Ross from my studio in Raleigh NC, drafting each pattern by hand. The garments I make are cut & sewn with great care either in-house or by a mom & pop operation in California.
What makes your business stand out?My line is named after my parents because it’s a unique blend of practical and romantic, just like them. My mother Judith was English, the wayward bohemian daughter of an engineer and a socialite who fell in love with my father Ross, the introspective son of a mechanic and a nurse from Seattle Washington. Growing up it seemed like between the two of them they could have made just about anything; we had a vegetable garden in our back yard, home made dinners, handmade toys and clothes. Mom painted, dad took photos. I often feel like Judah Ross is just an extension of the way I grew up - art, engineering & DIY all bundled together.
What's the best business advice you've received?Growing slowly can be a good thing.
