JaffWorks creates thoughtfully designed and crafted modern quilts and pillows which transform personal space.

Tell us about your business.

My first quilt was a love letter. My admirer sent me colored cloth in lieu of flowers. I sent him back a quilt. Quilts have since become my journal, scrapbook and travel log, a way to record my observations and experience. I often begin with a traditional pattern as a template, reworking it to include influences such as Japanese architecture, Danish design and Navajo weaving patterns. Re purposed and new fabrics are combined to create a sense of the past modulated by the present. I believe that versatile, well made objects with strong designs help define who we are and make our daily lives richer. At JaffWorks we see it as an opportunity to acknowledge the past through craft while creating designs which look forward to the future.

What makes your business stand out?

I love to see how people are reflected in their personal spaces. At Jaffworks we make items that reflect your individuality, are one or few of a kind, and combine functionality with bold design. We are fearless with mixing up colors and patterns. JaffWorks is named for my father's architectural woodworking company which operated in New York for 75 years. Continuing this tradition, all of our items are made with care in New York City.

What's the best business advice you've received?

Do something that matters to you, consider thoughtfully how it impacts other people, and work hard and smart at it.
