Tell us about your business. Before my daughter was born, I filled her nursery with items I made – gently handcrafted clothes, quilts, blankets, bibs etc. Among the treasures I created, I found one stand-out item I couldn't live without. My new baby was wearing a pair of soft cloth booties I made for her, and I realized that this was the greatest thing I’d ever made. They stayed on her feet when nothing else would, and she loved wearing them. After making countless tweaks and alterations, the first pair of Bison Booties® was born. Bison Booties stay on even the kickiest baby feet – the vegan cotton soft-sole booties have gentle fabric-wrapped elastic around the ankle, so they're easy to put on, but difficult to kick off. Babies love cuddling their toes into the sherpa fleece insole and moms appreciate that Bison Booties are machine washable. The soft soles support foot development and balance, all while looking cute and keeping feet comfortably warm.
What makes your business stand out? With a baby on my hip, I've grown this business from a sewing hobby in my basement, to a global business. Bison Booties have sold to all 50 states and 18 foreign countries. When my daughter was born in 2010, I quit my salaried "9-5" job to be a stay-at-home mom. This was both the easiest and most difficult decision of my life, but without making that change, I would not have found my real passion - being a mom, and an entrepreneur. To keep up with demand, I contract with a handful of local women sewists who assist with Bison Booties production. Bison Booties wouldn't be Bison Booties if they were made anywhere else. Bison Booties are made with the highest quality designer cotton fabrics and are available in many styles for boys and girls, and sizes from newborn to toddler. The name 'Bison Booties' comes from the rural prairie location where Bison Booties are made, a location where wild bison once roamed. Bison Booties are vegan (not made with animal products).
What's the best business advice you've received? The best business advice I've received is to follow your dreams and see where they take you. I never would have guessed that I'd be able to spend each day in the wonderful company of my toddler daughter, and making Bison Booties and running the business. I've never been happier – this is the best 'job' I've ever had.
