Editor at Large Jodi Levine lists these simple, versatile dishes as one of her favorite projects this year. "We don't really think in terms of trends, but the label 'granny chic' kept coming up," she says.

 

Jodi also created thoughtful, original ways to display kids' artwork this year. "I love all the painterly prints in textiles and fashion, and these reminded me of that," she says.

Our crafts editors saw a lot of food crafting this year, including these Halloween candy dots. Just change up the colors to make them appropriate for any time of year.

Deputy editor Silke Stoddard enjoyed rethinking the pom-pom: "I love pompoms anyway, but to use them in decorating and make them upscale and sophisticated was something new." Use Silke's pom-pom to decorate every space from bedrooms to home offices.

Our crafts department upcycled last year's clothing and accessories to make them new again. "It's fun to upcycle something you might have loved last year, but seems tired this year -- especially with such little effort and supplies," says Silke. One of her favorites was the cardigan update.

Silke also added beads to bags for an upscale look -- without the upscale price tag. Silke encourages crafters to take the sparkle as far as they'd like: "Since it's so inexpensive to make, get inspired and go a little more out there than you would if you had to pay for it from a designer's collection."

Assistant editor Laura Kaesshaefer lists these fun, festive Christmas Crackers among her favorites for the year. "They’re super resourceful and I love how they revamp a bit of a tired tradition," she says.

These scarves, also among Laura's favorites, encourage you to learn a little about the process of dip dyeing. Give this twist on a traditional textile a try and you'll see that no two scarves will ever turn out the same!

Associate designer Tracy Chou names these cork coasters, made with Martha Stewart Crafts satin craft paint, among her favorites. "It makes a great use of color -- especially since neon is very popular right now," she says.

One of Tracy's favorite craft products from 2012 is the circle edge punch, used to create beautiful, party-perfect doilies and medallions.
