French Method for Perfect White Rice

  • Coarse salt
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice, rinsed
  • Unsalted butter, for serving (optional)
  • Coarse salt, for serving (optional)


  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add rice and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender, 11 to 12 minutes. Drain and serve immediately. Serve with butter and salt, if desired.

    Throw away those rice cookers and get back the real estate in your kitchen cabinet. This is easy and you don't have to watch the pot. No more Minute Rice for me. I use to cook my rice in the microwave, which is also pretty easy, but I think that this method is even faster. My rice came out nice and fluffy and cooked perfectly. Thanks, Martha.
