French Method for Perfect White Rice

  • Coarse salt
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice, rinsed
  • Unsalted butter, for serving (optional)
  • Coarse salt, for serving (optional)


  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add rice and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender, 11 to 12 minutes. Drain and serve immediately. Serve with butter and salt, if desired.
