These DIY candleholders are an homage to traditional German candle arches, with intricate silhouettes of wintry scenes.

Wood-veneer sheets
Chipboard
Spray adhesive
Craft knife
Hot-glue gun
Clear-drying glue, such as Sobo
White paint
Detail brush
Glitter
Wood slab
Battery-operated LED window candle
Wooden candle base
Candle adhesive, such as Stick-um

1. Print tree and animal templates, and cut out.
2. Mount veneer to both sides of chipboard with spray adhesive. Let dry.
3. Trace templates onto veneered chipboard, and cut out with craft knife (you'll need 2 trees per holder). Cut 1 piece 2 1/2 inches by the width of tree trunk bottom as a base, two 3/4-by-2 1/2-inch pieces for tree supports, and 2 smaller supports for securing animals to tree (size will depend on where you place them).
4. Attach a tree to long side of base with hot glue, glue 2 supports two-thirds of the way up back of tree, then glue other tree to opposite side of base.
5. Mix equal parts clear-drying glue and paint; brush onto trees to make snowy accents. Sprinkle with glitter. Let dry.
6. Hot-glue tree to wood slab. Brush paint mixture onto wood slab to make snowy ground; sprinkle with glitter. Let dry.
7. Hot-glue support to back of each animal. Position animal on wood slab, hot-glue support to tree, and let dry.
8. Remove plastic base of window candle, and nestle in candle base. Secure candle between trees with candle adhesive, on base.
