Whether you have an odd-shaped window or want to use a pretty fabric, try this easy treatment. It's a quick and inexpensive way to get the look of a Roman shade: Measure fabric to fit the inside of the window, adding a few inches to the height, for sewing channels at the bottom and top, and 1 inch for sewing side seams. Machine-sew the hems and seams, and then slip tension rods through the channels. Once the top rod is in place, you can adjust the amount of light in the room with the bottom rod.
Striped fabric makes hemming the sides of the curtain a cinch. Just line up the stripes to ensure a straight seam.
