Wallpapered Stairs

Wallpapering stair risers is an affordable way to introduce a pattern you love to a space.

Resources: Bardini wallpaper, by Nina Campbell, $160 per roll,

  • Wallpaper
  • Clear water-based varnish

  1. Step 1

Cut the wallpaper -- a typical stairwell will need only one roll -- to cover the front of each riser, and then apply according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  2. Step 2

Protect the paper from scuffs and scratches with two or three thin coats of a clear water-based varnish, painting it on with a foam or soft-bristle brush.

I never even thought about that. Homeowners can use leftover wallpaper that they would otherwise through out and use it on their stairs. Nice post :)

How clever is that??!!!?? I can't wait to try it on my stairway! It adds interest but does not overpower the area. And when you're tired of it....just remove and/or change it!
