I have 2 cats and they've knocked over a cardboard box house I made them. Thankfully I was home, because the one big window I had made was face down, trapping my cats inside. (Luckily it hadn't occurred while I was away overnight or at work!) I'll be making Martha's house with "escape hatches" and advise others do the same. "Escape hatches" means in the middle of the cross where windows meet, I'll cut a fine line so they can punch through if caught inside. Safety 1st! : )

Two suggestions: use a cardboard tube from the center of wrapping paper or paper towel rolls to support the corner of the opening between the bottom and the upper "floor" of the playhouse; and, put a carpet square or mat on the floors (cut out the opening)or put a flat cardboard scratcher on the bottom (the upper is not strong enough) floor. We're moving next week, and I'm going to save boxes to make a couple of these!

I love this and am already planning on doing this. Instead of hot gluing them together I think I'll try using industrial velcro, the type that my husband uses for construction. That should prevent them from coming apart during play, but allow me to separate them for easy vacuuming.
