Easily crafted with a few folds, these paper hats get kids into character as Pilgrims (let them fight over the drumsticks -- and who gets to be miles standish).
Cutting the gold buckle can be tricky. It's best done by an elder of the settlement (aka Mom or Dad).

Paper Pilgrim Hat How-To
1. Download the template for the hat front and buckle, and trace them onto drawing paper, top. Cut out the buckle.
2. Cut out the silhouette of the hat, then fold up the brim. Cut out the headband; rest it inside the fold of the brim, and secure with a dot of glue. Glue buckle onto hat, above brim. Wrap headband around head, and secure with a dot of glue (or tape).

I was helping out my sister’s daughter do different kinds of hats for her school project because I did the same for my daughter when the latter was about her age. Her class was tasked to make 5 different kinds of hats in different colors, shapes and sizes.
We did some Western-inspired hats and a few pilgrim hats (thanks to this article!). To top her project off, I made special hat carriers that did not flatten or squash her hats when she brought these to school. She was very happy and called me her DIY-uncle.
