Semiprecious Stone Necklace
This versatile necklace adjusts to your outfit and your mood. Wear it long and lean, double it to accentuate a plunging neckline (shown here), or turn it into a ribbon-tied collar.

This feminine piece mixes crystal, smoky quartz, iolite, and other translucent beads; imperfect stock offers the best value. Leaving some extra space around the crimp lets you double the strand for the collar variation. If desired, the necklace can be worn as one long, single strand.

Nylon-coated beading wire (ours is 55 inches)
Cut a length of nylon-coated beading wire (ours is 55 inches). String beads, leaving a few inches at ends. Thread both ends through a metal crimp, leaving a 5-inch gap between first and last bead. Pinch crimp with needle-nose pliers; trim ends.
If you want to transform your necklace into a glittering four-layer collar, double the strand, and loop a length of grosgrain ribbon through each side to tie.
