The following instructions are for the package dimensions given in step 1. You can replicate these or use them for inspiration. To begin, wrap each package in the traditional way. Using the same paper, construct "bows" for the tops, which cascade down the sides of the box.
In addition to the paper, you'll need scissors and tape. Each piece of paper is applied using a 1 1/2- to 2-inch tape roll -- a piece of tape secured to itself at both ends. (Double-sided tape can be used, but tape rolls give the best results.)
For an 8 1/4-by-8-by-6-inch box, you will need: two 22-by-3-inch strips of paper; eight 2-by-1-inch strips; twelve 2 1/2-by-2-inch strips; two 10 1/2-by-1-inch strips; two 8 1/2-by-1 3/4-inch strips; and four 5-by-2-inch strips.
Trim ends of 22-inch strips in a scallop shape. Tape center of each strip to box top, 1 inch in from sides as shown. Then tape strips, about 3 inches from scalloped ends, to sides of box, about 1 1/2 inch down from edge; strip should be loose and flowing, not taut. Tape ends of four 2-inch strips together to form circles; place on side of box inside bowed-out portions of scalloped strips.
Form 2 1/2-, 10 1/2-, and 8 1/2-inch strips into circles (12 small, 2 medium, and 2 large). Tape a row of circles along one bowed strip as shown: 3 small, 1 large, 3 small. Alternate patterns as you go. Tape medium circle inside large one. Repeat along second bowed strip. Form 5-inch strips into circles; attach to sides just under bottom of scalloped edges to make edges stand out off box. Form remaining 2-inch strips into circles, and tape them inside bigger circles on sides.
