Project

Helix Bow

Introduction

The following instructions are for the package dimensions given in step 1. You can replicate these or use them for inspiration.

To begin, wrap each package in the traditional way. Using the same paper, construct "bows" for the tops, which cascade down the sides of the box. In addition to the paper, you'll need scissors and tape. Each piece of paper is applied using a 1 1/2- to 2-inch tape roll -- a piece of tape secured to itself at both ends. (Double-sided tape can be used, but tape rolls give the best results.)

Steps

  1. Step 1

For a 4-by-4-by-3-inch box, you will need: two 9-by-1-inch strips; two 9-by-1/2-inch strips; two 9-by-1/4-inch strips; four 15-by-1/4-inch strips; one 3-by-3/4-inch strip; two 6-by-1/4-inch strips.Trim ends of all 9-inch strips into V shape. Center one 9-by-1-inch strip over box; tape just below side edges so strip is loose and flowing, not taut; tape to center of box top. Repeat with remaining 9-by-1-inch strip, crossing over first strip.

  2. Step 2

Trim ends of 15-inch strips into V shape. Center and tape each strip over wider crisscrossed strips.

  3. Step 3

Tape ends of 9-by-1/2-inch strips together to form circles; pinch top and bottom together to form two loops; secure inside with tape. Center one over strips on box; tape remaining one perpendicular over first. Patterns should align with strips trailing down sides.

  4. Step 4

Form 9-by-1/4-inch strips into large circles. Tape one in center of "bow"; tape the other circle inside the first so they cross at top and bottom.

  5. Step 5

Form 3-inch strips into circles; tape at point where bottom of large circles meet. Cut 6-inch strips in half; trim one end of each into V shape. Attach each one to wide trailing strips. Tape strip about halfway down to side of box to give it a curvy effect.
