How-To

Seersucker Napkin Ring

Martha Stewart Living, July 2012

These napkin rings were inspired by the cuff of a seersucker shirt. To take it a step further, add a button covered with the fabric in a contrasting color. Can’t sew a buttonhole? Don’t worry. The button is ornamental; a snap keeps the ring closed.

This is a great way to put scraps of seersucker to use.

Tools and Materials

Seersucker fabric
Sewing machine and sewing supplies
Fabric-covered button kit
Snaps

  1. Cut a piece of 8-by-5 1/2-inch seersucker. Pin together with right sides facing, and, leaving a 1/4-inch seam allowance, sew along long side, creating a tube. Turn right side out.
  2. Fold rectangle so seam is at the center. Iron flat. Press unfinished edges in 1/4 inch, and sew shut.
  3. Sew snap to ends.
  4. Cover button with fabric according to package instructions, then sew on.
