Project

Succulent Rock Garden

Create a miniature landscape inside your home with a boot-tray arrangement of succulents.

Introduction

For more succulent display ideas, see our Modular Succulent Planters and Bottle Terrariums.

Materials

  • Boot tray
  • Cactus soil
  • Drill
  • Tumbled-glass mulch
  • Various succulent plants

Steps

  1. Step 1

Sprinkle an inch or more of well-draining cactus soil across the bottom of the tray.

  2. Step 2

If your display is going outside, use an electric drill to make drainage holes every three to four inches.

  3. Step 3

Top with a layer of tumbled-glass mulch, available at most garden centers, leaving room between each for the glass to shine through. Place the garden in a sunny spot, and water sparingly if indoors, only when the soil is completely dry to the touch.
