Bear Hugs
Inspired by "Big Bear," food editor Jennifer Aaronson's 2-year-old daughter's favorite stuffed animal, this ursine chocolate cake gets its soft and fuzzy look from icing piped on with a grass tip. With his chubby belly, constructed from a mound of cake, he's almost too cute to eat.

A very easy cake to assemble! I made the cakes from a box, and let them cool while I made the frosting. Start to finish, including a quick run to the store and picking up kids, it took almost all day. I used a buttercream frosting recipe I found on a blog. I did have to trim it down to get it to fit my sheet pan, and be warned...there are no cake boards big enough so you will have to use a huge cutting board if you want to do the cake as is. Otherwise you will have to trim it.
Just did a test run of this cake for my little one's first birthday. Baked the cake and make the icing the day before and kept the icing in the fridge. I had to rewhip the icing, but the firmer consistency made it easier to work with. This cake was very easy to make, ice and assemble (and I like easy!) and trimming a little off the legs is not noticeable at all if your cake pan is a little short.
Suzeprich1......is that all you do is complain...geeesh. Maybe you should change your name to Suzebitch since that's all you seem to do is [filtered word] [filtered word] [filtered word].
This happens w/ a lot of recipes on MS. Did they test this in a regular kitchen? Assembled, this cake is very long/wide, so what will you serve it on? How are you going to chill it overnight? When you chill a bowl of choc buttercream frosting overnight it hardens, and little bits of choc clog up the grass tip. I used a wooden shelf and had to assemble it right before the party, and switch to a wider star tip. It was adorable, but impossible to do day before, unless you have a walk-in!
Really looking forward to making this for my kids' next birthday party!
