Pepe's Flame of Love Martini

Bartender Pepe Ruiz made this variation on the vodka martini for Dean Martin in 1962. Here, Derek Brown, owner of the Columbia Room in Washington, D.C., offers his modern interpretation.

  • Ice
  • 2 1/4 ounces very cold vodka
  • 1/2 teaspoon fino sherry, chilled
  • 2 (2-inch) orange peels


  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add vodka and sherry; carefully ignite one of the orange peels over shaker; discard. Cover and shake until chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Carefully ignite the second orange peel over liquid. Discard peel and serve.
