Van Gogh-Inspired Arrangement

Our ode to Van Gogh: a deep bowl mounded with a variety of garden sunflowers, along with yarrow, zinnias, goldenrod, and heleniums.
"Sometimes you don't want to just isolate a special flower, such as a tree peony floating in a bowl," says Kevin Sharkey. "You want it to have some friends, but it helps to have a plan or structure."
These tender calla lilies make a stunning arrangement that add beauty to any room.
"Martha loves 'Flaming Parrot' and red Darwin tulips together," says Kevin Sharkey, who arranged the flowers using blooms from Martha's Bedford garden. "It's not a combination that most people would guess she'd like."
When bright Icelandic poppies and tulips are in season, Kevin Sharkey's sweet tooth guides his arranging. "Candy-colored blossoms resonate unlike any other for me," he says. "I can almost taste the blooms." He began building this array with tulips, filled it out with ebullient poppies, and then softened the mass with frothy mimosa.
This fishbowl garden has echeveria, aeonium, yellow tree peonies, paphiopedilum, asparagus ferns, lotus pods, scabiosa seed heads, and pitcher plant flowers.
Take this trio of topiary treats -- a lesson in the power of repetition plus a few simple tricks. Dress up three cones of floral foam with sunflowers and button chrysanthemums above "cuffs" of fuzzy kangaroo paws (Anigozanthos). Their harvest golds will glow like lanterns above the black urns.
