Purse-Stitch Scarf

  • Size 9 needles
  • 5 skeins wool

  1. Step 1

Cast on 50 stitches (or 16 inches).

  2. Step 2

Row 1: Slip 1 stitch purlwise with yarn in front, * yarn over, purl 2 together, and repeat * until the end of the row and knit last stitch.

  3. Step 3

Repeat step 2 until scarf reaches 72 inches.

  4. Step 4

Bind off loosely, using a larger needle if necessary to retain stretch in the fabric. (Steam lightly, if needed.)

geoffer - I see in your question that you were not coming out with the right number of stitches to finish the end of the row. The last stitch is a knit stitch according to the video. Also, if you look at the knitted piece in the video it does look like the finished scarf shown, but I think the type and weight of the yarn has everything to do with how it will turn out in the end. Keep trying and good luck!

The written directions do not match the video. I'm confused after slipping the first stitch. Do I yarn over (as in video) or knit a stitch then yarn over? If I follow written directions, I don't come out with the right number of stitches left to knit together.

The sample I knit from the video doesn't look like the photo of the scarf. It makes little eyelets. It's pretty, but not what is shown.

    Any help would be appreciated.
