A thin wooden dowel mounted inside a closet or cabinet door using cup hooks is the foundation of a simply chic jewelry hanger. Coat the dowel with semigloss paint. Suspend S hooks from the rod (the texture of the dried semigloss paint will help keep the hooks from sliding), and hang necklaces -- and bracelets and rings, if you like -- from the hooks for dazzling order.

I'm interested in creating a similar hanger for necklaces. Where can the S hooks be ordered/purchased? The only ones I can find online are 5" in length. The S hooks that are pictured are significantly shorter - 1" maybe?

You can also use a small curtain rod that comes with bracket. I use mine for belts. The hooks make it nice to slide them back and forth for different belt widths.
I have done this on a wall for many years by using a small dowel through an eyelet hook. I secure the dowel by nailing a washer onto the end of the dowel with a large upholstery tack. In my new house I painted everything in colors matching my walls and it looks perfect.
Great idea. I would choose a door that I do not open and close too often because of the chains that would swing and clatter each time the door moves.
