Project

Diet Coke and Mentos

Bring out your inner mad scientist by creating a mini eruption with this easy experiment.

Introduction

Tools and Materials

  • 2-liter bottle Diet Coke
  • 1 roll Mentos candy
  • Large plastic test tube

Diet Coke and Mentos How-To

Be sure to do this experiment outside as it will cause a considerable mess if done indoors.

  1. Open 2-liter bottle of Diet Coke and place on a firm, sturdy surface.
  2. Put Mentos candies into test tube.
  3. Invert test tube and quickly drop all Mentos candies into soda bottle and step back.

Note: For our mad scientist lab experiment, we used a Martha Stewart 3,000mL flask, 3 liters of Diet Coke, and 1 1/2 rolls of candy.
