Black Sheep Costume

Introduction

This simple black sheep how-to is perfect for the last-minute Halloween crafter. Martha came up with this costume during our Dollar-Store Costume Challenge.

Materials

  • Black shirt
  • Black pants
  • Black shoes
  • Black bathmats (2)
  • Safety pins
  • Black string
  • Black terrycloth towel
  • Labels from bathmats or scrap cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue and hot glue sticks

Steps

  1. Step 1

Create base of costume with a black shirt, black pants, and black shoes.

  2. Step 2

To create body of costume, pin bathmats together at shoulders, leaving a neck opening in the center.

  3. Step 3

Using a closed hand as a template, trace and cut out two shapes for ears from labels or cardboard scrap. Trace and cut out four ear shapes from the black terrycloth towel.

  4. Step 4

Sandwich each cardboard ear between two pieces of black terrycloth and secure with hot glue. Cover headband in black terrycloth and attach ears to headband with hot glue.

  5. Step 5

To create the sheep's tail, stack ten 1-inch by 7-inch strips of black terrycloth and tie in the middle with a long piece of black string. Tie black string with attached pom-pom tail around child's waist.

  6. Step 6

Use black makeup on the end of child’s nose to create a sheep nose.
