Project

Tutus Two Ways

Introduction

Put together a sponge tutu costume in a snap with this easy how-to from TV crafter Hosanna Houser, developed for our Dollar-Store Costume Challenge. If you have a bit more time, try the curled-ribbon variation.

Materials

  • Large cylinder vase or canister
  • Elastic headband
  • Colorful mesh body sponges
  • Scissors

Steps

  1. Step 1

Stretch elastic headband over a large cylinder vase or canister, which will act as the "dress form."

  2. Step 2

Pull a mesh sponge apart; cut into strips.

  3. Step 3

Fold a strip in half, making a loop. Place loop over waistband; thread ends through loop and pull through.

  4. Step 4

Repeat with more strips until tutu is full.

My teenagers are crazy about this! The girls are making these in there High School Football team colors and wearing them to the game.
