Turnip Votive Holder How-To

Use turnips in varying sizes for the most interesting display. As usual, don't leave lit candles unattended.
Martha Stewart Living, November 2011

Tools and Materials

  • Votive candles
  • Turnips
  • Melon baller
  1. For each candle, remove the votive candle from its protective metal case. Turn the metal piece upside down, and use it as a cookie cutter to mark a circle in the top of the turnip, pressing down to pierce the flesh.
  2. With the melon baller, hollow out the circle deep enough to rest the candle flush with the vegetable's surface. Place the candle (without the metal piece) inside the hollowed turnip.

Emily, I see what you mean. I got the picture from a link in my email. Try this link to see the turnip votives as part of a slideshow. You might have to copy and paste the link into your web browser. They are cute! :-)

I am alone or does anyone else miss seeing a picture of what the Turnip Votives look like???

Since we are visual beings, I am truly surprised that MS would have all these great projects but no initial photo to go with it!

How about a small photo, Martha? That would be a "good thing".

    Sincerely,
    Emily
