Essential Thanksgiving Preparation Schedule

This schedule is based on the Essential Thanksgiving menu. To round out the essentials here, take your pick from the suggested make-ahead sides.

3 Days Ahead

Make Cranberry-Ginger Relish; refrigerate. Place frozen turkey on a tray in refrigerator to thaw (allow 24 hours for every 4 to 5 pounds).

1 Day Ahead

Set Thanksgiving table, and assign serving dishes and utensils. Make herb rub for turkey. Prepare stuffing through step 2; refrigerate bread and vegetables separately.

5 Hours Ahead

Spread herb rub under skin of turkey. Prepare Simple Stuffing; stuff turkey, and roast. Transfer extra stuffing to baking dish; refrigerate. Bring Cranberry-Ginger Relish to room temperature.

45 Minutes to 1 Hour Ahead

While turkey rests, make White-Wine Gravy and bake extra stuffing.

Just Before Serving

Transfer stuffing from turkey and extra baked stuffing to serving dish; carve turkey. Reheat gravy, if necessary; whisk smooth.
